The thrust can give me the extra reach to hit them before they can hit me. The only times I ever do a thrust attack with a lance is when I am riding straight at an enemy that is also riding toward me with a lance. While it is in that position you can aim the tip at a target and ride into them to do a couched lance attack. If using a lance on horseback you can either click and hold to prepare a thrust, or you can just ride forwards and when you get enough speed the lance will automatically drop into a horizontal position. As you get more skill in a weapon type your attacks with those weapons will get faster. You will need to get a feel for the weapon speeds and when using a slower weapon you will need to release the mouse button early so your attack lands when you want it to. Just click and hold the right mouse button to block and when you release the right mouse button you will still have your previously prepared attack ready to go. Its also filled with flaws that are hard to overlook, the graphics look horrendously dated, the combat controls are clunky, and theres so much repetition here. If you are holding an attack and need to block, don't release your attack. You can hold the attack and release the mouse button when you are ready to swing or thrust the weapon. When you click the mouse button, don't release immediately. Left or Right will have you prepare to do a slash from that direction. Moving the mouse forward while clicking the left mouse button will raise your weapon above your head.
